The Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Ride Cymbal is a rather interesting ride cymbal that merges very brilliant sounds with some very dark tones. It’s one of Zildjian’s more innovative rides that was developed along with Akira Jimbo, a famous Japanese jazz fusion drummer. The Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Ride Cymbal features defined stick action and a strong bell like the rest of the K Custom Ride line, but it combines these features with the crashability and with the sound spread that you’d expect to find in a lathed, thinner cymbal. The Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Ride Cymbal features two different finishes and lathing styles. In the inner section, it has the brilliant finish and the unlathed look of the K Custom Ride series. The outer half, however, is lathed and is done in the traditional finish that most K series rides are done in. This gives you access to two different types of sounds on the same ride. The unlathed section also provides more sustain and wash, which is great if you’re going to record with these cymbals. The whole idea was to make the Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Ride Cymbal one of the most versatile cymbals in the world, and it certainly meets that goal.
