The Zildjian K Custom High Definition Ride Cymbal was created via a partnership between Zildjian and Terry Lyne Carrington, the famous jazz drummer who has played with jazz artists such a Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, and Joe Sample. When she and Zildjian began working on these cymbals, Carrington knew she wanted to make something that jazz drummers would love. The result was a ride that is in some ways similar to the old Zildjian K and Zildjian Constantinople line of cymbals, but it’s also quite different in some ways. The Zildjian K Custom High Definition Ride Cymbal is known for its outstanding definition and its great tone, which is nicely balanced against its dryness. What We Found
The Zildjian K Custom High Definition Ride Cymbal is a medium-thin ride that is created using a combination of traditional hammering and modern processes, including over-hammering. The entire cymbal is done using a lathing technique that creates narrow, symmetrical grooves on the surface of the cymbal. This makes it produce it’s incredibly dry sound. The cymbal is then finished in a traditional finish. It’s great for jazz drummers, although it is also useful for hip hop, fusion, pop, world, country, and Latin.
