The Zildjian A Armand Ride is actually based on the 19 inch Armand Ride Cymbal that was used years ago. At that point, it was created to meet the growing demands of the pop and rock genres, and many drummers of the first rock bands used the A Armand cymbals. Today, many drummers have been looking for cymbals from that time, but few are still around. To meet that demand, Zildjian recreated the A Armand using new shaping processes. This gave the Armand Ride a nice, smooth blend, a lightweight feel, and a good amount of projection.
To give the Zildjian A Armand Ride Cymbal that traditional look, they did not apply any protective coating. This makes it look aged and plain, just like a cymbal from the 60s would look. The top has a fairly tight lathe on it that, when combined with the traditional Zildjian lathing on the bottom, gives each cymbal its unique feel.
