Sabian HHX Legacy Heavy Ride Cymbal
Looking for a great ride cymbal feature semi-dry stick articulation, a crisp, warm tone, and a large bell? Then you want the Sabian HHX Legacy Heavy Ride Cymbal. The 22 inch HHX Legacy was designed by Dave Weckl, the famous drummer who partnered with Sabian to create a line of cymbals like no other. One of the results of this partnership was the Legacy Heavy Ride, which combines hand hammering with HHX over hammering. This makes a cymbal that produces a dark, warm, deep sound. The entire cymbal and bell are lathed, but the bell itself is not hammered. This gives it a very bright contrast while still blending in with the cymbal’s overall sound. What we Found
All in all, the Legacy Heavy features the stick response of a standard heavy ride, but it has the tone response of a smaller cymbal. This is because the Legacy Heavy Ride is actually more of a medium weight—it’s simply the heaviest cymbal in the Legacy series. This means you shouldn’t discount it right away if you’re shying away from heavy cymbals. It’s still very musical and playable. It is, though, darker than a lot of cymbals. This is because Weckl loves dark tones, and his idea of dark is a lot deeper than many other people’s.
